The 2012 BMW 550i xDrive is a more difficult car to repair than other similar sized models…a symptom of the monstrous twin-turbo V8 in the engine bay. Accessing the cabin air filter is difficult, as you will need a variety of tools in order to remove the components necessary for accessing the filter. The battery is located in the trunk. In order to access, you will have to remove bolts and a lining, which are more steps than you’ll find on other models. Changing the wiper blades is more difficult on this car than it is on other similar models because raising the blade itself is a much more difficult process than normal.
There are some easier aspects to repairing the 2012 BMW 550i xDrive. The power steering fluid level is easy to check. Some vehicles do not allow you to check the power steering level, so it’s a nice touch to be able to do this on this vehicle. Accessing the high beam bulb is pretty easy, as you only have to remove a few covers in order to get to the bulb. The interior fuses are easily accessible through a small panel in the glove box. This will allow you to troubleshoot electrical problems easily.
