The 2005 Mercury Sable GS is a moderately easy car to maintain. To remove the battery bracket, you only need to remove one easy to remove bolt first. This makes a reliable battery change much easier. The components of the spare tire are easily accessible in the rear of the vehicle. This keeps the tire and jack kit ready to go in case of emergency. Both of the fuse boxes are no problem to access on this vehicle. You only need to remove one cover in order to access either set of fuses, allowing you to troubleshoot electrical problems easily.
Some things are tougher to repair on the 2005 Mercury Sable GS. The brake fluid level can be difficult to check, as the fluid reservoir is located in a not overly visible spot in the engine bay. You will have to disengage a few fasteners and a bolt in order to remove the housing for access to the headlight. Most models allow you to simply reach behind the housing for access to the bulb. In order to replace the tail light, you will have to completely remove the tail light housing first. This requires a few tools, and a tough reach, making the bulb change much more difficult.
